Time: Story time is held every Thursday at 10:30 am

Physical Space: Regular meeting room set up with tables and chairs to the side for coloring.  Work table at the front and chairs for caregivers at the back.
We follow the seasons through the year while making room for special days and holidays.  There is a theme for each session and the books  and activities will reflect that theme as much as possible.

Theme for April 25: Earth Day
    Welcome and gathering song
Another song (on the theme if possible)
First Book: It's my earth too
    Second book: Earth Day Birthday
Game and Activity:  ( Here I bring out the flannel board with pictures about spring.  These are pictures of baby animals - lamb, kid, duck, as well as birds nesting, and a field of flowers. Behind one of the pictures is a baby animal and they take turns guessing which picture it might be.  I also have pictures of children working on earth day - picking up trash and recycling etc.  They take turns matching  the pictures on the board with a second set of identical pictures, and I try to explain to them what is happening and why it is important.)
    Coloring Time
    Play Time
    Cleanup Time

The program might seem long but it goes quickly.  With such brief attention spans I have to keep things moving.  The songs offer opportunity for motor activity, to learn about colors and numbers etc , as well as the theme of the day.  I introduce grown up ideas such as peace, black history and earth day as a way to expand their vocabulary and hopefully make them want to learn to read and discover for themselves.
