"Librarians have a unique opportunity to position themselves as civic leaders that can bridge the gap between apathy and engagement, bringing community members from unaware to informed. If libraries see themselves as purveyors of civic education think about how much value the library has brought to the community… At a time when polarization is the defining and dividing feature in American politics, public libraries are the place to bring communities together to solve local problems both big and small."- Paula Wilson, Public Libraries Online

If you are working to advance civic life in your community we need you to join us for a timely opportunity to engage together on civic issues that matter. We are hosting the FCA 2019 Summit, "Celebrating Civic Excellence through Engagement," December 12-13 at St. Petersburg College – Seminole Campus. We have an exciting program lined up with speakers to inspire, wrapped up in a World Cafe process designed for full engagement of the participants at the Summit. You will be able to take inspiration from national and state thought leaders and "Civic Excellence" award winning strategies for: Citizen involvement with local government; Voter education and civic service; and Intergenerational civic engagement. Together we will generate action ideas that can advance civic practices in Florida's communities.
