SEFLIN kicked off our new series "Out of the Box" last month with "Libraries as Civility Leaders", a presentation and facilitated conversation by award-winning author and civility leader, Dr. Robert Watson. His presentation slides are available to download from SEFLIN Connect. The attendees expressed interest in continuing their conversation online. If this is of interest, please send Irina (email@example.com) an email asking to be included in the Out of the Box discussion group. This series is designed for library leaders to consider differing perspectives from experts outside of the library world, and to promote innovative thinking and creative solutions to conventional barriers.
Please join us for the next topic in this series at our Spring Membership Council Meeting on May 24 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at the Main Library of the Miami-Dade Public Library System in Miami. We will take a deep dive into the poverty levels in our region and the impact on libraries and communities. A representative from the United Way will first lead us through Florida's ALICE Report (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) looking at the data specific to our region. To enrich the discussion, we invited a panel of library directors (academic and public) who will discuss the programs they are providing in their libraries for this segment of our population. Attendees will have an opportunity to share their libraries' programs and services with each other.
Please join us for this presentation and discussion, I hope to see you there! The agenda for the day includes time for breakfast and networking, the presentation and discussion, and our bi-annual Membership Council Meeting.
