The Florida Library Association Advocacy Committee would like to announce February is Love Your Library Month. For advocacy, we are concentrating on state officials as they are joined in Tallahassee February 1-19, 2021 for committee weeks prior to the beginning of Legislative Session.

This is your chance to reach out to your Florida House and Senate members and remind them to "Love Your Library!"

Some ways you can participate now

    • Send letters or welcome notes to congratulate new representatives in your district
    • Set up virtual visits with your representatives in the district for the week of February 22-26 while they are home prior to Legislative Session beginning
    • Send representatives information about your library - exciting virtual programs, services your library has offered during COVID19
    • Invite representatives to follow your library on social media platforms and connect with your representatives on social media platforms and get their weekly updates
    • Remember to share the love on social media using the hashtag #LoveYourLibrary.

    • Share or Create a newspaper op-ed – use the op ed letter from the FLA President, Laura Spears, PhD, or use your own local letter

    Engage your local officials

It's also important to educate your local City/County officials, here are ideas to connect with them.

    • Present virtually at Community Organization meetings such as Rotary, Kiwanis, Chamber, etc.
