The Special Collections department at the University of Miami offers visitors many delights - astonishing rare books, maps that fire the imagination, fascinating archival collections, and so much more. Our collections reflect the diversity of our city and state, the beauty of our natural surroundings, our dedication to the University's curriculum, and the expertise and interest of our curators. They are also meant to foster creativity, inspire scholarly inquiry, and delight the eye.
Two of our most delightful (and delectable!) collecting areas are culinary history and artists' books, which are books that are unique, surprising, and thoughtful works of art in their own right. So, right in time for the holidays, we are offering a deep dive that combines these two genres.
Join Head of Special Collections Cristina Favretto as she leads us on an online tour of exquisite engravings, buttery bindings, peppery prints, and ravishing recipes, all rendered in the form of fascinating volumes from two of our most popular collections. We promise it will be a (low calorie) feast for the eyes!
